association between epicardial fat thickness and premature coronary artery disease: a case control study
Authors
abstract
conclusions the eft, as measured by echocardiography, with a cut off value 2.95 mm has a strong association with premature cad. results among baseline characteristics, waist circumference, triglyceride levels, cigarette smoking and history of statin use were significantly higher in the cad group. the body mass index (bmi) was significantly higher in the non-cad group. according to echocardiographic data, the eft with a cut off value of 2.95 mm could well differentiate subjects in each group. the lv mass and e/e were significantly higher in cad group, in addition to eft. also, there was a significant correlation between eft and waist circumference, as well as lv mass. however, no significant relation was between eft and lv systolic and diastolic function. objectives in the present study, we sought whether such a relationship between eft and cad exists. patients and methods sixty two consecutive subjects, under 50 years of age, who underwent coronary angiography (cag) with the aspect of cad, were included in this case control study. they were divided into two groups of 31 subjects, namely cad (cases) and non-cad (controls) group, according to cag data. presence of conventional coronary risk factors, drug history, and anthropometric data were recorded. then, each subject underwent standard transthoracic echocardiography for measuring eft in the proximal part of right ventricular outflow tract in the parasternal long axis view at end diastole, as well as other parameters of systolic and diastolic function, and left ventricle (lv) mass. images were stored for offline analysis when the echocardiocardiographers were blind to cag data. background the association between epicardial fat thickness (eft) and premature coronary artery disease (cad) has not been elaborately studied.

Association Between Epicardial Fat Thickness and Premature Coronary Artery Disease: A Case Control Study
BACKGROUND The association between epicardial fat thickness (EFT) and premature coronary artery disease (CAD) has not been elaborately studied. OBJECTIVES In the present study, we sought whether such a relationship between EFT and CAD exists. full textAssociation between rs2228014 Polymorphism of CXCR4 and Coronary Artery Atherosclerosis: A Case-Control Study
Introduction: Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease and is one of the leading causes of cardiovascular disease. Vascular plaques are formed on the inner surface of hardened arteries and gradually develop, reducing the diameter of the arteries. CXCR4 is one of the most important chemokine receptors, whose presence has been confirmed in cardiac plaques. Our aim was to determine the relations...
full textThe Association between Socio – economic Factors and Coronary Artery Disease in Yazd Province: a case - control Study
Introduction: One of the strongest and most consistent predictors of morbidity and mortality of an individual is socio -economic status (SES) and coronary artery disease (CAD) is maybe the most prominent disturbance caused by socio-economic inequality. To investigate the relation between socio - economic factors with CAD this study was conducted in Yazd province. Materials and Methods:This retr...
full textAssociation of vitamin D deficiency and premature coronary artery disease
Background: Evidence suggests hypovitaminosis D is associated with increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) and its extent and related risk factors. However, some investigations have produced contrary results. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the association between serum vitamin D levels and the severity of premature coronary artery involvement. Methods: This randomized prospective, cas...
full textAssociation between Helicobacter pylori Infection and Atherosclerotic Coronary Artery Disease
Background and Objectives: Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in developed countries. In addition to traditional risk factors for cardiovascular disease, nowadays, accumulating evidence indicates that a variety of infections contribute to pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, (We investigated whether Helicobacter pylori infection is related to Prevalence of coronar...
full textCorrelation of echocardiographic epicardial fat thickness with severity of coronary artery disease-an observational study.
OBJECTIVE Epicardial fat is an indirect contact with coronary arteries. There are some studies about the relationship between this fat and metabolic syndrome and it has considered as an indicator of cardiovascular risk. Several studies have addressed the association between epicardial fat thickness (EFT) and coronary artery disease (CAD) with conflicting results. The aim of our study was to eva...
